Poem for Malala and International Women’s Day

There are chains which seal the mind

They hold closed the doors to our future

There are some who control the flow of

Knowledge, they fear the loss of power.

A single flower defied these old barren,

Fields grew from the soil a seed of knowledge

Fear and Patriarchy tried to crush the little flower.

A child stoned in the streets a girl shot in the head

Old patriarchy dodders in his senility drools on his shoes.

Education is the water precious giver of life,

Let the knowledge flow to fertile lands,

A seed grows in the parched lands germinates,

Gains strength silent no more the voices scream.

Throw down the chains of ignorance,

Open the doors of the mind explore the

Future following the footsteps of the child

She will light the way to tomorrow.
